February 11, 1938, the Vail Mine, located up Deadman Creek, exploded killing 5 men. The mine was located about 5 miles up Deadman Creek (3 miles down-river from the Box Y). Mrs. Baker (wife of a miiner) walked the 5 miles to the Deadman Ranch to report the explosion.
