[Taken from the Minutes of Wyoming Historical Landmark Commission Annual Meeting, 19 Jul 1939 in Cheyenne, Wyoming].br/br/[After arriving in Star Valley at 5:30 p.m., 3 Jul 1939]. quot;At the lower end of the Valley, they were met by a large crowd at the Lander Cut-Off Monument. Senator Lester Barrus, of Lincoln County, acted as chairman of the program. The Afton High School Band opened with quot;Americaquot;, followed by an invocation given by a local Bishop. Senator Barrus then introduced every member of the dedicatory party, and the dedicatory address by John C. Thompson, treasurer of the Historical Landmark Commission, followed. There was a musical number by a local quartet of young men and women which was followed by a short address by Govenor Smith. The party and the crowd then drove on to Afton, Wyoming, some twelve miles, where they stayed the night at the new Vallion (Valleon) Hotel. The Govenor and his party were entertained by a local boxing program, which was followed by the grand opening of the Hotel and a ball.quot;br/br/This monument has since been destroyed by a truck accident and not replaced at this site.
